I have not posted anything about Lucky Library Picks or my To Read List Books for the past 2 months. The reason is simply that I have not been picking up as many books from the library of late. With my India trip only about 2 months away, I want to finish reading the books I already have on my shelf. And I tell you, I have more titles than I can actually read. So, I thought it would be a good idea if I could just make a list of the books to be read in the next 2 months.
To start of I have a few books that I abandoned mid way, not because they were not good but, because I got something more interesting to read. I wish to complete reading them before my awaited India trip. Of course, there will be a whole new bunch of book to buy from India and they will only add to my already long TBR pile.
Here goes the list:
Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner
I have read more than half of it and hopefully it will not take me long to finish it.
Ninepins by Rosy Thornton
I received this review copy from the author. I had enjoyed her book The Tapestry of Love and I am looking forward to reading her latest book.
The Little Shadows by Marina Endicott
I received this review copy from the publisher. This is one of the book in my priority reading list.
The Difficulty of Being Good by Gurcharan Das and Saraswati Park by Anjali Joseph
These are titles I had picked up on my last India trip. I don't know why I have not read them till now. I have to read them before my India visit this year!
Apart from these I have some books from the library that have been sitting on my shelf for rather long. They are:
The Indian Clerk by David Leavitt
One Day by David Nicholls
My Friend Jesus Christ by Lars Husum
1Q84 Book 1 & 2 by Haruki Murakami
Of course, I don't want to return them to the library without reading them!
Apart from all these, I have 2 books that I am presently reading:
A Dangerous Inheritance by Alison Weir. I received a review copy from the publisher.
Prince of Ayodhya by Ashok K. Banker. This is the first book of the author's series on Ramayana. I had reserved a copy of this book long time back in the library. Actually, I was not even hoping to get it as, it was showing missing in the online catalogue. When I received a call from the library that this book has arrived, I was very happy. I am planning to buy next few books of the series from India.
Well, this is going to be my reading list for the next 2 months. Hopefully, I will reach my target.
Apart from all these books there are 2 books that I brought from the library with the thought that I would enjoy them. But when I started reading them, I realized they were not my cup of tea. So, I abandoned them and returned them to the library. They were Ghost Light by Joseph O Connor and The Goddess Village by Nuala Woulfe
Meanwhile, if you could suggest me some good titles by Indian authors it would be great. I need to make a list of my 'To Buy Books' from India :-)!
Have a nice weekend. Thanks for stopping by! Cheers!

Lucky Library Picks #11 ~ 1Q84 by Murakami
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami (Book 1 and 2)
This is a belated post of my Lucky Library Picks series. I was supposed to publish it on the 15th of this month. But, due to my illness, I couldn't. I had picked up this book early this month.
This book has been on display in every book shop I have been in the last couple of month and I have seen many good and bad reviews of the book. It intrigued me and I have been looking for it in the library for quite a time. I had spotted the Book 3 many a times. But, I wanted to read the book in sequence. Hence, when I saw this volume, I picked it up.
I am very much looking forward to reading it.
Thank you for stopping by! Cheers1

Lucky Library Picks # 10
Another Friday of Lucky Library Picks is here and I have some books to share. I have a good number of books to read and I am somewhat lagging behind in my reading plans. So, I have decided to post my Lucky Library Picks post only once a month. From next month I will post my Lucky Library Picks on the 15th of every month and hopefully the titles that have been sitting for a while on my shelf will be read soon.
This week for Lucky Library Picks I have these two books to share.
One Day by David Nicholls
This book has been on my TBR ever since the movie on this book was released. I didn't watch the movie as I wanted to read the book first. The book revolves around 2 people over a span of 20 years. It is touted as a modern classic.
The Prodigal Daughter by Jeffrey Archer
This is the 2nd book of the Kane and Abel series. I have just finished reading Kane and Abel by the author which I enjoyed very much and I can't wait to this one.
Thank you for stopping by! Cheers!

Lucky Library Picks # 9
The last couple of books I have read have not kept me glued to it. I mean, they were not bad read, but they were not absolutely riveting. That is why when I went to the library this time, I had in mind which author's titles I want to pick. And finely, I zeroed on these two books for Lucky Library Picks.
Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer and The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks
I have always enjoyed the books by these authors and at times when I need something to read that will have my undivided attention, I know I can fall back on their books. You can see reviews of books by Nicholas Sparks and Jeffrey Archer by following the link.
Do you have something to share? I will love to hear.

Lucky Library Picks#8 ~ The Indian Clerk by David Leavitt
This week for Lucky Library Picks, I have picked only one book. My book shelf is overflowing with books from the library. Some of the books I had bought during my India visit are still waiting to be read. I thought it would be better to clear the backlog of books before picking more from the library.
You can see other posts of this series here.
I have picked up 'The Indian Clerk' by David Leavitt this week. Of late, I am really inclined to pick books which has an Indian element in it, hence this pick.
I am quoting a little from the blurb to give an insight about what the book is:
"On a January morning in 1913, G. H. Hardy--eccentric, charismatic and, at thirty-seven, already considered the greatest British mathematician of his age--receives in the mail a mysterious envelope covered with Indian stamps. Inside he finds a rambling letter from a self-professed mathematical genius who claims to be on the brink of solving the most important unsolved mathematical problem of all time. Hardy determines to learn more about the mysterious Ramanujan and, if possible, persuade him to come to Cambridge. It is a decision that will profoundly affect not only his own life, and that of his friends, but the entire history of mathematics."
Isn't that intriguing? I have read a few reviews of this book and many suggests that it needs a patient reading, but in the end it is worth it. I am really looking forward to reading it.
Thank you for stopping by! Cheers!

Lucky Library Picks # 7
Today is Lucky Library Picks Friday and I am up with my Lucky Picks. As I already have a number of books to be read from the library, I didn't want to pick too many books again, even though I was very much tempted to. So, I have picked up only one book, The Help by Katherine Stockett.
Visit any book store these day, this book is promptly displayed everywhere. I have heard great reviews about it and hence couldn't help picking it up. I didn't see the movie only because, I wanted to read this book. I am really looking forward to it.
You can see other posts of this series here.

Lucky Library Picks # 6
I am here with yet another post of my Lucky Library Picks. You can see other posts of this series here.
This week I have these two books.
My friend Jesus Christ by Lars Husum
Seriously, I have picked up this book on impulse. The blurb is interesting and I had flipped a few pages of the book before picking it up.
'A remarkable tragicomic tale about trust and friendship and how individual actions dictate the lives around you. Arresting' - Says Financial Times.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
I had actually half read this book and had to return it to the library due to my India trip last year. So, reading it again has been long due. Glad to have spotted it in the library.
If you have something to share, do leave a link. Thank you for stopping by. Cheers!

Lucky Library Picks#5
Ever since I started this meme, I go to the library with renewed interest, enthusiasm and hope and have been picking up interesting titles. This week for 'Lucky Library Picks' I have 2 books to share.
Beatrice and Virgil by Yann Martel:
I read Life of Pi by the author last year and after a difficult start, that book has been one of those enlightening reads that I cherish. To pick Beatrice and Virgil by Yann Martel seems to be a natural progression to me.
The blurb says, "This is the story of a donkey named Beatrice and a monkey named Virgil. It is the story of an extraordinary journey undertaken by a man named Henry".
Isn't that intriguing? Well after the tiger in Life of Pi, I am in for a donkey and monkey in this novel!;-P!
Animal's People by Indra Sinha
I had not heard about this author or the book before. The cover of the book says - shortlisted for the 2007 Man Booker Prize. Well, my knowledge about these things had never been very good. What caught my attention is the excerpt from the back of the book:
"I used to be human once. So I'm told. I don't remember it myself, but people who knew me when I was small say I walked on two feet just like a human being".
That sounds crude but it was enough to stir up my interest.
If the same thought is crossing your mind as mine then let me reassure you, I will pick some books without any animals in them next time.:-)! Do you have anything to share about Lucky Library Picks, so share your link! You can check my other Lucky Library Picks post here.

Lucky Library Picks#3
Here is another edition of Lucky Library Picks. Check out this to know what it is all about! You can find my other Lucky Library Picks posts here.
I have 3 three books to share this week.
Touchy Subjects by Emma Donoghue
Ever since I read Room by Emma Donoghue I wanted to read some more of the author's work and so I picked this book up from the library as soon as I saw it and I am really looking forward to it.
Ghost Light by Joseph O'Connor
When this book was released this year, it was there everywhere, from shops to billboards. But, the title of the book did not seem to me as alluring. When I read the blurb from the back of the book, I was really intrigued and hence picked it up. I am also trying to read as many Irish authors as possible.
Arranged Marriages by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
The Palace of Illusions by the same author is one of my favorite reads this years. That naturally left me yearning for more from the author. Being an Indian, I can naturally relate to the topic of this book, Arranged Marriages and I am eager to see how the author has treated this subject.
I have just finished reading New Moon by Stephenie Meyer, so it's review is up next. Stay tuned!
Thank you for stopping by! Cheers!

Lucky Library Picks #2
This week, for the Lucky Library Picks, I have these two books to share:
The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson
This is the third and the last book of the famous crime thriller trilogy by the Swedish author, Stieg Larsson. You can find the review of the first book and the second book here and here.
The second book is Home by Manju Kapoor.
I have been meaning to read something by this author for a long time now and when I spotted this book in the library, I was very happy. Home by Manju Kapoor is a tale of three generations, and the acts of compromise and secrecy that lie at the heart of every family.
Check out what this meme is about here. Next Lucky Library Picks post will be on 16th Dec 2011
